I’m in the middle of configuring a Ubuntu 8.04 LTS server. I’m on the step where I have to configure the /etc/hosts file, and frankly, I’m stuck.

Heres what I’m looking at:

127.0.0.1 localhost
127.0.1.1 server1.Belkin server1
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts

I need to know what I need to fill in here. The guide I’m using says it should look something like this:

127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
192.168.0.100 server1.example.com server1
# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
::1 ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
fe00::0 ip6-localnet
ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
ff02::3 ip6-allhosts

I’m not sure what to fill in for the first and second lines.

Thanks

im planning to create a website right now on go daddy.
i have a few questions for the computer smartys out there:

1. for my domain name, the site is suggesting i buy the .info, .org, AND .com. is it really neccessary to buy all them or is .com enough?
2. for my web hosting, do i want linux or windows? and um..what is linux?
3. should i get the economy, deluxe, or premium plan? and should i pay for just a few months or a lot of them?
4. and is there anything else i should buy or think about or whatever before i get it??

so please try to help me out, if only with 1 or 2 of my questions.

Linux Hosting

actually i have a mobile application that is developed on .Net platform. this application sends data to our database(it in mysql) which is present in our remote redhat linux server. we acess it with the help of whiz ftp and putty. data is sent to database with the help of our web service that is present on another windows server. our website developed on php is also hosted on this linux server.

everything was working fine.last week we changed our linux server for some reasons. here came a problem after shifting all the files from previous server to new server all the process became slow, i mean we are facing time out exception, its taking a lot of time to acess database and display records on the website, every thing that worked on previous server the same doesn’t work here… we cant send mails from php using smtp server,we get “mail sending fail error “.

what could be the problem ??????? the only change we made is we upgraded our mysql from 3.5 to 5.0 thats it

pls help me

I’m graduated in computer science and do IT jobs for some 5 years now. I’m gonna immigrate to Australia in a year. living prices are kinda high though there are good job opportunities there, but I couldn’t find out how much do they pay monthly. how much should I expect to be payed for IT jobs (I do Linux administration stuff in a web hosting company).
thanks for your help.
