it wont let me use the windows HOSTS file i tried removing the read only on the properties and it worked but after that it says access is denied and reactivates the read only properties
i think i know how to use it i just cant make it work
i have administrative privelges and i turned everything off any other suggestions
i also have vista though and i have security software scheduled daily

Hey so for about a week now, i get “windows host services has stopped working” errors ALOT, and everything is really slow, and i get alot of random “bn87e.tmp stopped working” errors and other “.tmp” errors.

i have no idea why this happens, i can barely do anything on my computer, (i actually JUST got this error while writing this )

i checked for malware, nothing, viruses nothing i used ccleaner and regedit and all that shit nothing works. i check my task managaer i have like 14 “svhost.exe” running.

I’ve managed to write a simple program that simply adds a textbox and a button to the start menu. I’ve done this using a combination of C# with Windows.Forms controls, and Win32 API like SetParent and FindWindow. The controls work absolutely fine, however, I am unsure as to whether this method of using Managed code to extend the Windows shell directly, and having the start menu host .NET controls could be troublesome for whatever reason. This was a quick program I wrote to find out if it was possible, but if I were to develop such an application, I would like to know if it would be safer to create controls using Win32 API?

If I can get this to work, I may be able to create some kind of ‘Start Search’ for Windows XP…
